About SpikeDroidDB
The problem of integration and processing of large data sets is becoming increasingly important in biology, which is characterized by a huge variety of research objects, multi-level organization of living systems, a huge flow of molecular-biological data generated as a result of large-scale experiments. The structure of the spike is one of the most important signs of cereals. It is directly related to such economically valuable qualities of cereals as productivity, resistance to environmental factors and pests, ease of threshing. The spike of cereals is diverse in form, size, density, aesthetic, color, etc. Of particular interest to breeders is the density of the spike, the number of grains in the spike and their size. Computer technologies in biology should provide a high degree of information gathering about the phenotype, organize its storage in databases and create a platform for intellectual analysis of the information received. For the successful development and implementation of high-performance phenotyping technologies, the development of protocols for obtaining digital images is primarily required. In the present work, a computer information system in the field of plant biology for the collection, storage and analysis of information on the phenotypic (morphometric) characteristics of the wheat spike is presented. Several protocols (pin, table) have been received for obtaining digital images of the spike and system, SpikeDroidDB, which allows structured storage of digital images of the spike, their annotation, and provides the user with a flexible query system for accessing data. The Web interface of the SpikeDroidDB system is available at http://spikedroid.biores.
